From a Little Halloween Magic to Something Much Bigger
What started as a small passion project has grown into something I never could have imagined.
Four years ago, Skeleton Sam and His Graveyard Band began with a simple idea: create a fun, family-friendly Halloween experience that would bring a little extra magic to our neighborhood.
I've always loved Halloween. Not necessarily the scary, spooky, jump-out-and-get-you side of it, but the creativity, the excitement, the costumes, the music, and most importantly, the way it brings people together.
I wanted to create something that families could enjoy together. Something that would make little kids dance, big kids laugh, and adults feel like kids again.
And so, Skeleton Sam was born.
What began as a small Halloween display has grown bigger, brighter, and more elaborate with each passing year. Today, Skeleton Sam and His Graveyard Band is a full Halloween music and light show, complete with dancing skeletons, animated characters, and music that spans generations. From Halloween classics to today's hits, there's a little something for everyone!
But the best part has never been the lights, the technology, or the countless hours spent bringing it all to life.
It's the people.
It's watching families gather together. It's seeing kids light up when their favorite song comes on. It's hearing laughter, watching people dance, and knowing that, even if just for a little while, we've created a place where people can forget about everything else and simply enjoy being together.
That's what has made every hour of work worth it.
This year, I want to make that magic mean even more.
As Skeleton Sam enters his fourth Halloween season, I'm hoping to turn this little neighborhood tradition into something that gives back to the community that has helped it grow.
That's why I'm raising money for Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU , supporting the children and families in our community who could use a little extra magic of their own.
The show has always been, and will always be, completely free to enjoy. There are no tickets, no admission fees, and absolutely no expectation to donate.
But if Skeleton Sam and his Graveyard Band bring a smile to your face, get your feet moving, or create a special Halloween memory for your family, I hope you'll consider making a donation of any amount.
Every dollar is an opportunity to turn a little Halloween fun into something that can make a real difference for local children.
Whether you donate, share this page, or simply come out and enjoy the show, thank you for being part of this journey.
Here's to making memories, spreading joy, and proving that even a bunch of Hocus Pocus and dancing skeletons can have a whole lot of heart.
Stay spooky, stay kind
Behind the Scenes and a Look Back
Ever wonder what goes into bringing a house full of dancing skeletons to life? Every minute of the finished show takes me about an hour to create. From designing the scenes and animating characters to syncing the music and mapping everything to the house, there's a whole lot of behind-the-scenes magic!
